Explaining the Criminal Trial

A 13-minute video explaining the major players and phases of a criminal trial for an intro-level criminal justice course at GSU.

For this project, I:
  • Served as the researcher, script writer, and 1 of 2 interactive designers. This was one of only a few projects I completed where the client reached out to me directly and I did not partner with an Instructional Designer.
  • Pitched the trial as an exploration of what would have happened had D.B. Cooper been caught and tried for air piracy so as not to distract students with current events or violent crimes.
  • Researched the unsolved case of D.B. Cooper, comparing it to similar cases to determine how he would have been tried and what legal fronts to pursue in the script.
  • Consulted with the client weekly to refine the large amount of content into key learning goals and concepts which would improve student retention and understanding.
  • Developed a 3,146 word script by consulting with a former judge and two attorneys for legal and procedural accuracy.
  • Referenced actual air piracy trial transcripts and publicly available university-level Mock Trial scripts for legalese and wording.
  • Added interactive hot spots in PlayPosit for students to further engage with the content and to re-emphasize the most important points.
